The Golden Age
The avant-garde play “Das Goldene Zeitalter” was shown as the season’s beginning at the Dortmund Theatre House in 2013. The topic: Repetition. Given that everything is part of a recurrence of the ever-same, can there be such a thing as originality?
In total, the play consists of eight hours of material from different origins that are being reassembled with every representation, so – paradoxically – no evening is quite like the one before.
This book is made up of 100 consecutively numbered texts – but no page numbers. The reader makes their way through “Das Goldene Zeitalter”, being sent backward and forward by cross references, constantly browsing – constantly on the lookout. Text fragments, visual echoes, quotes and repetitions of things already read are flashing up along the way.
