“Horizonte” is a Journal for Architectural Discourse published by a students’ initiative at the Bauhaus University Weimar since 2010.
What does architecture know? The eleventh issue of “Horizonte” tries to answer this question in eight submissions, both in English and in German (essays, interviews, photo series).
Every copy comes with an additional zine in which ten architects (who have all been speaking at the lecture series “Horizonte”, established more than twenty years ago) answer questions about their area of expertise – quickly and intuitively. The zine has been printed on a Risograph.
As a guiding design idea, we referenced elements derived from classical book aesthetics in a contemporary visual context. Thus, every submission is being introduced by an “end-paper” consisting of a typographical composition on the front and a reproduction of a handcrafted marbled paper on the back side. The articles have been printed on a natural paper whereas we have chosen a high-white glossy paper for the image section in the middle of the magazine. Our display typeface “Rando” dates back to the romanesque typefaces of the late 19th and early 20th century and resembles Willy Fleckhaus’ iconic design of the “Suhrkamp Taschenbuch Wissenschaft” publications.
