The text “Shoutout an die Vergänglichkeit” is Matthias Seier’s gesture of saying goodbye to Alexander Kerlin after six years of working together at the Dortmund Theater House, just before his colleague moves to Vienna to start working at the Burgtheater. In 42 text fragments, he sketches their collective intellectual world, full of ideas, images, quotes and cross-references.
Matthias Seier’s text brims over the page, positioning it somewhere between a roadmap and a playbill. When unfolded, the folding lines reveal their use as a subtle grid organizing the type (an homage to Richard Hollis). In the background, yellow outlined letters form the message “Colligite fragmenta, ne pereant” – “Collect the fragments so they do not perish”.
