In-between Realities
“Zwischenrealitäten” is an object biography of the Soviet experimental building Жемчуг in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, planned and built from 1972 to 1985.
In line with her master’s thesis, Vera Heinemann has been gaining deep insights into the history of this rather uncharted building. She interviewed its residents, investigated archives and managed to get in touch with the family of the architect Ofelia Petrovna Aydinova who passed away in 2006. The results of this study are being presented in an essayistic text which is structured similar to the research process itself. The book turns into a unique archive, a handpicked collection of photographs, letters, architectural plans and stories, many of which have not been published before.
